FAQ ABOUT THE GALACTIC CENTRE
1. WHERE IS THE GC?
The Galactic Centre (the centre of the Milky Way) is at present (december 2004) at 26d53m Sagittarius.
2. WHAT IS THE GC?
The milky way turns around a point in the middle that we call the Galactic Centre. Seen from earth that centre - probably a black hole - is now in the 27th degree of Sagittarius. It 'moves' 10 seconds per year.
3. WHY NOW THAT ATTENTION FOR THE GC?
a.
On December 18 2012 acoording to old Maya writings (that is to say: as is mentioned on the Internet) the Golden Age will start and that will be announced by the 'descending of the allowances'. Than a new period of 13.000 years will start, untill the Sun (seen from earth) will again be in the centre of the Milky way.
b.
On December 12 2007 Pluto will be in the degree of the GC. That is not for the first time in history! But as it happens the MC (midheaven) in the chart of Pope Benedict the 16th is in the 27th degree of Sagittarius...
So: lots of expectations!
4. IS HAVING A PLANET CONJUNCT GC AN INDICATION FOR SPIRITUALITY?
I checked the charts of 18 people who were busy with astrology and only 1 had a tight conjunction with the GC. It was Michael Gauquelin with Venus on 25d56m Sagittarius. (BTW: I have Venus exactly on the GC myself, too, so maybe I should add myself and make it 2:). As for being spiritual: the Pope has the MC there.
Famous people and conjunctions with the GC:
- Serial killer Dutroux (Moon 26d25m Sagittarius)
- Mrs. Schiavo (woman in coma for years who was allowed to die after years of legal struggle): Mercury on the GC 25d54m
- Rod Stewart, Mercury in 26d08m Sagittarius
- Pope Benedict, the MC
I find these results rather disappointing and so my answer would be: NO, it is not.
Note: a sunny astrologer said to me that having the Sun on the GC might indicate that one day you disappear in a big black hole and another astrologer jokes that with Mercury on the GC people can go on endlessly about the fact that they are the centre of the universe. I do not want to make fun with the GC, but I do think there is a lot of study to be done about the effects. And that is an understatement. Because it is very hard to measure or proof 'spirituality'.
5. WHAT INDICATIONS DOES THE GC GIVE?
Given the names of famous people here above you might thing that the GC is an indication for fame or infame. But that is not so. I know a few people with a planet or MC in the degree of the GC and they are not well known or mystical or spiritual at all.
6. SABIAN SYMBOL AND GC
The 27th degree of Sagittaris according to the Book of images: a man hangin by his feet, head down, on a tree, bravely fighting an angry lion. Janduz said the meaning of it was 'complicated struggle'. Jealous and envious people might fight these people. On the other hand, they can handle, however strong their enemies are.
That is the degree the GC is in today since 360 years! On October 2010 the GC gets into the 28th degree of Sagittarius (27d0m) and that degree has the image of a rider on a camel, followed by a turtle: it will be a degree of easy going efforts (according to Janduz).
7. IS IT A SPECIAL DEGREE?
Are all those who are born on the 18 of December special people? I think special people are born each day!
CONCLUSION
The position of the GC is a nice point of study! We know practically nothing about it yet and I feel that we should be carefull with claims about special effects of the 27th degree of Sagittarius. You can take the GC into account as part of a triple indication for spirituality, but not on its own.
